Introducing a New Book All About Serpentine at Soldiers Delight!
In an exciting start to 2026 for Soldiers Delight Conservation, Inc., the Friends Group for Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area in Owings Mills, Maryland, we are thrilled to announce the publication of All About Serpentine at Soldiers Delight, a scientific work by SDCI's own R. Wayne Tyndall, Ph.D., who retired as the state's restoration ecologist for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Serpentine is a complex and intriguing subject, of interest to everyone from the casual observer to the research scientist. This book provides an overview of common topics for Soldiers Delight, the largest serpentine area in the eastern United States. Subjects include origin and geology, landscape history, present and past vegetation, plant growth, fire ecology, soils, restoration, and stewardship. Discussions are based on peer-reviewed publications cited in the references section for each topic and more than 30 years of on-site research and experience by the author.
SDCI is proud to offer Dr. Tyndall's book for sale at the Soldiers Delight Visitor Center or by filling out the contact form on our website.
