Stargazing -- Crisis in Cosmology - a.k.a. The Hubble Tension

Join the Westminster Astrological Society (WASI) to learn how special relativity revolutionized our understanding of space and time by showing that they are interwoven into a signal continuum. Transitioning to general relativity, the lecture will highlight how Einstein’s theory describes gravity not as a force, but as a curvature of spacetime caused by mass. We’ll also discuss real-world applications, such as the precise calculations needed for GPS satellites.

Rain or shine, during the indoor portion of the program, you will learn the constellations and have your questions answered about the galaxy. If the weather is clear, the group will spend time outside once it is dark viewing the cosmos through "time machines" (telescopes) provided by WASI. Feel free to bring your own telescope! WASI will assist with setup and focusing as needed. Wear sturdy shoes as night hiking is required to get to the viewing field. This program is eligible for the Model B Junior Ranger Program. Signup is encouraged.
