Stargazing Program --Cosmic Fireworks - Transient & Explosive Events in the Universe

When: This Week   June 20, 2026
  8:30 pm Saturday
Where: Soldiers Delight NEA
How Much: FREE, Donations Welcome!

Join the members of the Westminster Astronomical Society Inc., in exploring the dynamic and explosive side of the universe, revealing a cosmos that is far from calm or static. The lecture then turns to even more extreme cosmic events, including neutron star mergers, gamma ray bursts, and violent encounters involving black holes.

Rain or shine, during the indoor portion of the program, you will learn the constellations and have your questions answered about the galaxy. If the weather is clear, the group will spend time outside once it is dark viewing the cosmos through "time machines" (telescopes) provided by WASI. Feel free to bring your own telescope! WASI will assist with setup and focusing as needed. Wear sturdy shoes as night hiking is required to get to the viewing field. This program is eligible for the Model B Junior Ranger Program. Signup is encouraged. This program will be held even if raining.
